Highway Rangers Pilot Programme – Opportunities for Local Improvements
The Highway Rangers programme has been introduced to help tackle a range of minor but visible issues that can affect the appearance and condition of our local streets, including:
- Cutting back overhanging vegetation
- Cleaning road and traffic signs
- Clearing debris from drains and other highway drainage features
- Minor repairs to street furniture
- Removing weeds and clearing pavement edges
- Removing unauthorised signs and advertisements
- Minor hedge trimming and general decluttering works
The programme relies on suggestions from local highways teams, county councillors, parish and town councils, and routine inspections to identify suitable areas for intervention.
If there are locations within your parish that you believe may benefit from the Highway Rangers' support, please submit the details to parish-town.enquiries@westsussex.gov.uk, including the location and a brief description of the issue.
Whilst not mandatory, it would be extremely helpful if requests could also include photographs of the issue and either a What3Words reference or a map showing the exact location. This will assist the team in assessing requests and identifying sites quickly and accurately.
If you are unsure whether particular works fall within the scope of the programme, I would still encourage you to submit a request. The team can then assess the location and determine whether it is suitable for inclusion within the pilot.
Whilst the Highway Rangers will not be able to undertake every type of maintenance activity, they are intended to help improve the appearance and condition of our communities by addressing a range of smaller-scale issues.
